Portrait Techniques
Painting and/or drawing a face with expression and technical quality. Make a successful portrait is evenly based on a good observation and a good execution.
Emphasis will be put on the major stages on the development of a portrait from a photograph: the layout of a page, the proportions, the relationship between the different elements of the face, the basic sketch, the detailed sketch, the contrast and the consistency between each grey color value , the transitions between the zones of shades, the coloring up if you are painting on a canvas and finally the learning of a more abstract vision of the face.
Landscape Techniques

Where to start, precise positioning of the light, the horizon line, the vanishing points, the principle of perspective in drawing, the angle of vision...

And for the painters, evaluate the colors and the combinations of colors, work on the different layers with various tools...
Abstraction & Research
What are the main stages in the elaboration of an abstract work of art, What is it that draws you to this kind of art? Will you be attracted by a geometrical artwork, or by a gestural or a more spontaneous artwork?
We will make a great amount of researches and experiment a lot of techniques (pastels, acrylics, oil, sanguine, charcoal, graphite...) to help you discover the unlimited possibilities of abstract art. We will try out various tools: spatula, knives, brushes, spalters and also tools created by us: cord, wire, sponge, sand paper... not to mention the different supports: canvas, cartboard, wood, MDF, paper...
Materials
As usual, basic materials are foreseen at the studio but it's recommended to bring your own materials if you wish to work a specific subject or technique.
Paintings (oil et acrylics), watercolours, gouaches, color pencils, pastels dry or crayons, charcoal, brushes (round, flat and spalters 1 to 10 cm width), graphite, Indian ink, rags and various paper stocks...
How and what to draw or paint today?
The way artists paint or draw today has evolved drastically. Visionary painters like the german Sigmar Polke have empowered this genre from the sixties. Some 20 years later, the Dutch artist Elly Strik or the American painter Craig Hanna have revisited in a very contemporary way the portraits of the past.
